How do I move structures from one location to another?

During the lifecycle of an OLE design, there are a number of reasons as to why structures may move from their original positions to new locations.

This article will look at each of the ways in which structures can be re-located and detail the step-by-step process of how to perform each action.

Single Structure Move

'Structure Move' enables you to move a single structure to a new a pre-defined location

  1. Identify the new location of the structure

Place a circle marker (or markers if the structure is a Portal) at the correct position(s) within your design as to where you want the structure to be moved to.

  2. Select the 'Structure Move' button

Located on the Lineardraft Toolbar and once selected, follow the prompt to 'Select a Structure' - this should be the structure that you wish to relocate.

  3. Select the marker(s)

Once the structure has been selected, you must now identify the new structure position by selecting the previously placed circle marker (or markers for a Portal).

  4. Select the rails

Follow the prompts to select the left and right rails. The selections made here will re-confirm and identify which track(s) are to be associated with the structure.

Re-confirming the rails is necessary as such due to the possibility of the rails having different data identifications. If your track alignment file is made up of multiple segments and/or line strings that are broken in places, then this step will ensure that the correct associations are applied.

  5. Confirm selections

Once the rails have been confirmed, the 'Edit Structure' dialog will be displayed on screen. The information contained here details the components and values that were selected during the structure configuration.

Make any adjustments that you require before clicking Confirm to accept and place your structure in the new location.

    TOP TIP!

As the structure may have been moved to a new segment of track and potentially onto a different set of line strings, the chainage value will not be automatically updated. Therefore, please ensure that this is adjusted manually to reflect the new structure location.

Moving Multiple Structures

'Structure Multi-move' enables you to move multiple structures along track to new locations. When using this feature, each structure chosen within the command will be moved in the same direction and by the same distance from the detail prescribed on the Multi-move dialog.

PLEASE NOTE!

Multi-move can only be used on single mast (single marker) structures. This includes: STCs, TTCs, Twin Cantilevers, SSAs, Wall & Soffit attachments. Portal structures cannot be moved using this feature.

  1. Select the 'Structure Multi-move' button

Located on the Lineardraft Toolbar and once selected, the 'Multi-move Structures' dialog will be displayed.

  2. Add structures to the dialog

Adding the structures that you want to move to the dialog can be performed in 2 ways:

1 - Click the 'Locate' button and then follow the prompt to select a structure. Once a structure has been chosen, it will be added to the dialog. The prompt and command will remain active, therefore you can then continue to select structures, which in turn, will be added to the dialog.

2 - Using the CAD application's selection tool, highlight all of the structures you wish to add before clicking 'Locate'. All highlighted structures will then be added to the dialog.

    TOP TIP!

If you incorrectly add a structure, simply highlight the structure within the dialog and click 'Remove'. The structure will be instantly removed from your selection.

  3. Define the move value

Using the field in the lower left of the dialog, input the value in which you want to move the structures along track. A positive value will move the structures in an increasing chainage direction, whereas a negative value will move them in a decreasing chainage direction.

The move value selected here is in metres and the will be applied to each of the selected structures.

  4. Confirm selections

Once all of the structures have been added to the dialog and the move value has been defined, click 'Move' to apply your changes.

The software will automatically re-build each structure and place them in their new position within your design

    PLEASE NOTE!

When structures are re-located using 'Structure Multi-move', all information will be automatically updated and applied within your design - this includes chainage, easting, northing, top of foundation and bearing.

The RECOS of each structure will remain the same as the movement applied is only in an along track direction.
