My Model is Slow to Load, What can I do?

As you work on a model, you will sometimes delete structures, for a number of reasons. If you do this they are removed from the drawings and 3D models etc, but Microstation doesn't tidy up the model file by default, so over time the model file will become larger and larger. In order to solve this problem and keep file sizes and load times to a minimum follow the following steps; (These instructions are for Microstation V8i).

  1. In Microstation Select the 'File' menu, go down to 'Compress' and select 'Options' as shown below;

  2. This will display the following dialog box, you can use the checkboxes to select what will be removed when you compress the model, additionally, if you select the 'Include References' check box any reference files will also be compressed according to the settings shown above

  3. Once you have selected the required options, click the 'Compress' button and wait while Microstation compresses your model.
  4. You can stop at this stage, however, you can get Microstation to do this process automatically when you close a model after working on it, this will keep model sizes and load times as small and efficient as possible, to do this; Select 'Preferences' from the 'Workspace' menu. This will display an options dialog box, as shown below;

  5. Choose 'Operation' from the menu on the left-hand side, and then tick 'Compress on Exit' and click ok. This will mean the compression process will be completed every time you close a model and thus keep model sizes and load times to a minimum.
